Art is many things, but above all else it is a reflection. From Duchamp\u2019s Fountain<\/em> to Dore\u2019s The Burial of Sarah<\/em>, all artwork is a reflection of how the artist sees the world around them. It is inspired heavily by the influences of everyday life. The stimuli of life seeps in through our pores and bleeds on to stage, screen, and canvas. But what do we do as artists when the world around us isn\u2019t as beautiful as it could- or even should- be.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Artists wield the only weapon that can combat the brutal realities of everyday life; the imagination. \u201cRevolutionary Imagination\u201d is a concept centered around hope for a better future. When the powers that be are at their most oppressive, it is easy to feel hopeless.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

It is easy to see a world plagued by racism, genocide, homophobia and xenophobia as \u201ctoo far gone.\u201d However, that is counterproductive. The fact is, those that came before us made it this far because they saw a future that could be in spite of what was. They saw a world redeemed from the horrors that divide us. They carried with them a revolutionary imagination that brought into being a better tomorrow. So the question now is, what is your favorite tomorrow? What is the world that you envision? What are the possibilities that you may dare to dream of? We cannot fight for a tomorrow we cannot imagine. It is a revolutionary act in and of itself to simply believe tomorrow can be better. As artists, we\u2019re the only ones who can show the world what a better tomorrow could look like.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
